Metal Worker/ Helper Trainee

Key Duties

(training to be provided where necessary)

  • Assemble and tack weld perforated stainless steel using a MIG welder
  • Accurately interpret instructions, drawings and work orders for the job
  • Progressive die stamping
  • CNC Press brake work
  • Press operating
  • Metal shearing
  • Fork lift operation
  • Clean shop and assist in all other shop duties wherever needed

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred, or 3-mos of relevant experience or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Students who have completed or are currently enrolled in a BOCES metal manufacturing program are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Willingness to take direction
  • Ability to lift a maximum of 50 lbs on an infrequent basis. (parts, in boxes, lifted from a shelf above head height) • Maximum weight lifted- repetitive basis 10 lbs. (parts, tools, materials)
  • This position is a safety-sensitive position and will require a pre-employment physical, including audiometric testing (hearing testing) repeated annually, pre-employment and regular drug testing, and criminal background screening
Lead Production & Die Setter

KEY DUTIES

Die Setting:

  • Sets up machines used to manufacture metal pieces and parts
  • Installs dies, aligns and bolts dies to presses
  • Loads coils or strips of metal onto the presses and helps with the actual operation of the metal stamping equipment as necessary
  • Tests machines to verify their conformance to die setups
  • Conducts quality assurance tests using precision measuring tools

Production Planning & Execution

  • Assists in the production plan process by scheduling and assigning personnel, accomplishing work results, establishing priorities, revising schedules and resolving problems
  • Ensures raw materials are used properly and efficiently in all processes and monitors stock levels
  • Accurately interprets instructions, drawings and work orders for the job
  • Uses precision measuring tools to confirm that all parts are manufactured to specifications and oversees and coordinates calibration activities

Performs and supervises the following metal manufacturing processes:

  • Metal stamping
  • Press operating
  • Metal shearing
  • CNC Press brake work
  • Drilling and tapping
  • Welding
  • Tumbling
  • Degreasing

Ensures all equipment is properly maintained and operating correctly and safely

Trains, mentors and coaches employees

Assists in maintaining continuous quality improvement processes in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 requirements and GLPS quality standards.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 2 years relevant experience in an industrial environment
  • Previous supervision experience an asset
  • Ability to lift a maximum of 50 lbs on an infrequent basis
