Welding

Great Lakes Pressed Steel’s MIG and Spot Welding capabilities are organized for maximum efficiency. Our welders are AWS certified, providing customers with a wide variety of capacities and capabilities. The majority of our products are proudly made in the USA*.

What is MIG Welding

Metal Inert Gas or “MIG” Welding is typically utilized with metal of thin to medium thickness and can produce a very strong bond between dissimilar metals. Originally developed in the post World War II era for welding aluminum, it has evolved to be the most common type of industrial welding in practice.

Benefits of MIG Welding

MIG Welding is a high-productivity, low-cost welding process used to weld all types of commercially available alloys and metals. Welding is quick in all positions with the proper selection of equipment, yielding faster welds in comparison to such forms as manual ARC welds. Minimal post-welding clean-up is required.

The MIG process can handle almost any weldable metal, with the most common being carbon and stainless steel. MIG welding aluminum is also extremely popular.

Applications & Industries

Mig Welding is useful for many applications and industries, including:

  • Defense/Military
  • Medical
  • Aerospace/Avionics
  • Energy
  • Electronic enclosures
  • Custom projects

What is Spot Welding?

Resistance welding is a process that quickly and efficiently joins two or more thin sheets of metal, and “spot” welding is the most frequently used type of resistance welding. Here, the welded joint is formed by pressing electrodes with pointed tips at welding locations to focus the proper current and heat to particular places on the metals to be welded.

Benefits of Spot Welding:

  • Fast, simple, and widely applicable welding procedure.
  • No dangers from open flames.
  • No need for filler metals or fluxes to produce a join.
  • Metal sheets can be welded together simultaneously.

*All of our manufacturing, assembly, and finishing is completed in the U.S.A from high-quality metals and other raw materials, the majority of which are also made in the U.S.A.   From time to time we may source steel and other metals from Canada or other countries to offer our customers lower prices or where particular metals are not manufactured in the U.S.A. If having a product “all or virtually all” made in the U.S.A. is important to you, please let us know and if we can complete your order with entirely made in the U.S.A. materials, we will be happy to do so. We can also provide certificates, showing the place of origin of the metal, if requested at the time your order is placed”.
